THE EVENT
Each year, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office hosts the Silent Angel Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony with families and friends at the heart of every moment. This gathering is created especially for the loved ones whose lives were forever changed and whose hearts continue to carry precious memories each and every day.
We come together to speak their names, to honor their lives, and to surround one another with compassion and understanding. At the center stands the Silent Angel tree, softly illuminated and adorned with ornaments engraved with the names of victims of homicide. Each Silent Angel represents hope, goodness, protection, comfort, and peace — a sacred reminder that the lives remembered here mattered deeply and continue to matter still.
As the tree glows, it stands as a beacon of enduring love. Even in the darkest moments, love does not fade. Your loved one’s light lives on — in memory, in community, and in every heart they touched. This ceremony is a time to remember, to honor, and to find strength together, knowing you are not alone and that your loved one will never be forgotten.
